The Pathology Residency Program at Albany Medical College offers a 48-month combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology training program and a 36-month Anatomic Pathology only training program. Residents have the opportunity to enter the program immediately after graduation from medical school or at a more advanced level. The program aims to produce academic leaders in diagnostic pathology and research, as well as well-rounded pathologists for careers in community practice.
Residents in the program benefit from a diverse curriculum covering surgical pathology, autopsy, forensic pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology, molecular diagnostics, and more in an educational environment focused on resident education. Residents also have opportunities for research and exposure to a wide range of cases.
Albany Medical Center, the hub of the Albany Med Health System, offers a safe environment for residents, close to major metropolitan areas but without the associated expenses. The region is multicultural and welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds.
The program accepts graduates from LCME-accredited U.S. and Canadian medical schools, AOA-accredited U.S. colleges of osteopathic medicine, and international medical graduates meeting specific qualifications. Candidates should have passed USMLE Steps 1 and 2, be ECFMG certified if international medical graduates, and must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or J-1 visa eligible. The program does not sponsor H-1B visas.
The application deadline for the program is Nov. 15. Preference is given to individuals with U.S. experience, and applications are processed through ERAS. Required application materials include CV, MSPE, ECFMG certificate (if applicable), letters of recommendation, medical school transcript and diploma, photo, personal statement, and USMLE Steps I and II. Interview dates are scheduled between Nov. 1 and Jan. 31.
The curriculum focuses on Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology, with rotations and educational opportunities in various subspecialties. Residents are encouraged to engage in clinically related research throughout their training.
