The Wayne State University Internal Medicine Residency Program is committed to training physicians to become outstanding internists skilled in internal medicine. The program offers excellent resources and training opportunities through rotations at various clinical sites within the Detroit Medical Center, providing a broad exposure to clinical medicine. The program also offers subspecialty fellowship programs directed by the department's divisions.

Application to the program requires graduating from an AMA-approved medical school (for US graduates) and meeting the criteria outlined in the "Essentials of Accredited Residencies." Prospective applicants must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) program and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Required application documents include letters of recommendation, transcripts, and passing USMLE scores (Step 1 and 2 on the first attempt). International graduates need to include a valid ECFMG certificate and only J1 Visas are offered.

Applicants are individually reviewed by the Internal Medicine Program Director. The program looks for candidates with competitive academic achievements, clinical preparedness, motivation, integrity, and varied extra-curricular experiences.
