Jefferson Health Northeast Program
Internal med/Emer med/Critical care (components individually accredited) - Philadelphia, PA | ACGME Code: 7754100001
The Internal Medicine program at Jefferson Health in the Northeast is a three-year, ACGME accredited program that offers residents a comprehensive educational experience to become well-rounded, competent physicians. Residents have the opportunity to rotate through three campuses - Torresdale, Frankford, and Bucks - where they manage a diverse patient population and gain exposure to various disease processes and treatments.
One unique aspect of this program is the additional critical care training provided, with residents spending six months in the ICU throughout their residency. This specialized training equips residents with the necessary skills to care for critically ill patients and handle unstable conditions effectively.
Unlike traditional call schedules, Jefferson Health Northeast Program implements a night float system to ensure resident well-being and minimize fatigue. Residents complete two 2-week blocks of 12-hour shifts during the academic year.
The program focuses on delivering high-quality didactic training, developing strong clinical decision-making skills, enhancing procedural competence, providing teaching opportunities, and fostering a supportive and positive learning environment for each resident. Graduates from this program emerge as competent, confident, and exceptional internal medicine physicians eligible to practice in both community and academic settings.
Career paths chosen by residents include Hospitalist Medicine, Ambulatory Medicine, as well as various fellowships in specialties such as ICU, Cardiology, Infectious Disease, GI, and more. A notable number of program alumni continue their careers as faculty attendings post-graduation.
