McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University (Evanston) Program

The Psychiatry Residency Program at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, catered by the Feinberg School of Medicine, is committed to training future leaders, educators, and researchers in the field of psychiatry. The program focuses on providing a rigorous and comprehensive training in psychiatry within a large urban tertiary care health system. Residents are trained to offer evidence-based and compassionate care to diverse patient populations. Application to the program requires applicants to have completed at least four weeks of clinical psychiatry training in medical school. The program offers residents the opportunity to specialize in a Research or Clinical Educator Track, aligning with their career goals in academic psychiatry.

The Psychiatry Residency program requires applicants to apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) for PGY-1 positions. The program offers two tracks annually: the Categorical track for PGY-1 applicants and the Research Track/PSTP for residents with extensive research backgrounds aspiring to become clinician-scientists. Additionally, residents can opt for the Clinician Educator Track after acceptance into the McGaw Medical Education Clinical Scholars Program.

The program supports J1, H1B, and F1 visas for eligible candidates. Application requirements include a complete ERAS application, USMLE scores (Part I required; Part II optional but preferred), three letters of recommendation, a personal statement, medical school transcript, and Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE). Deadlines for submission follow the ERAS timeline for residency applicants.

Interviews for the program are conducted virtually from October to January, with invitations sent out accordingly. The Selection Committee values applicants who show interest through the ERAS application. The program does not have a minimum board score requirement for interview consideration and reviews applications holistically to identify suitable candidates. Residents are given 72 hours to respond to interview invitations.
