The Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare Internal Medicine Residency Program in Memphis offers a diverse training experience. Residents will care for patients with chronic diseases reflecting the health disparities of the region. The primary teaching site is Methodist University Hospital, with experienced faculty mentors. Residents have a continuity clinic every other week, managing a patient panel across the continuum of care.
The program provides individualized educational experiences (IEE) allowing tailored training based on resident competence levels. This includes options for more ambulatory, inpatient, or subspecialty experiences. The three-year schedule involves rotations in EM, ICU, and outpatient settings, without overnight in-house call during PGY1.
Educational sessions, including board review lectures, Grand Rounds, and journal club, are held on Thursdays. Residents receive hospital employee benefits, free parking, a daily meal stipend, three weeks of annual vacation, and malpractice coverage. The PGY1 salary is $60,216.
Applications are accepted through ERAS, and the program participates in the NRMP Main Match. Methodist Healthcare – Memphis Hospitals is a not-for-profit healthcare system with a long history as an ACGME clinical learning environment. Hosting over 300 residents and fellows, it transitioned to an academic community hospital model and welcomed its first internal medicine residency class in July 2022.
