The Pediatrics Residency Program at Monmouth Medical Center, part of Rutgers Health, prepares residents to excel in pediatric care through a comprehensive curriculum focusing on patient care, medical knowledge, communication skills, practice-based learning, professionalism, and systems-based practice. Led by Program Director Dr. Renuka Verma and Associate Program Director Dr. Janice Lichtenberger, the program emphasizes the importance of training well-rounded pediatricians.

Application to the program is conducted via ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). Requirements include a personal statement, CV, dean's letter, three letters of recommendation, USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores (minimum passing score of 210), medical school transcript, ECFMG certificate for international applicants, and completion of the Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) before starting the program. The residency does not accept applicants who have been out of medical school for more than 5 years.
The program offers a variety of rotations, including Pediatric Floor, Ambulatory Pediatric Clinic, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Newborn Nursery, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Adolescent Medicine, and more. Electives in different pediatric specialties and individualized learning experiences cater to residents' career aspirations.
The program also involves various activities such as Journal Club, monthly quizzes, guideline reviews, research meetings, Ellen Cosgrove Research Competition, Grand Rounds, annual symposium, retreats, and social events fostering resident camaraderie and work-life balance. Recent graduates have pursued fellowships in various pediatric subspecialties or joined general pediatric practices in different locations.
