The Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine offers a Preventive Medicine Residency Program that is fully accredited by the ACGME. It is a two-year program designed to meet the requirements for certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
Before entering the program, candidates are required to complete at least one year in an ACGME accredited program, transitional program, or primary care specialty such as internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, or general surgery.
This unique program is cosponsored by Tulane University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and the School of Medicine. It aims to train residents for careers in academic, administrative, and/or clinical preventive medicine and public health.
Residents will engage in academic work leading to a Master of Public Health degree and supervised practicum experiences that promote the application of preventive medicine and public health principles.
The program's mission is to provide residents with a high-quality educational experience that prepares them for careers in academic, administrative, and/or clinical preventive medicine. This is achieved through a comprehensive curriculum, engagement in clinical preventive services in various community settings, scientific investigation, quality management projects, and collaborative efforts to improve community health.
Tulane's Preventive Medicine Residency Program is fully accredited by the ACGME. The most recent site visit occurred in 2010, and the next ACGME Self-Study Visit date is scheduled for the fall of 2023.
