Additionally, the program offers a Specialty Training and Research (STAR) Program for physician-scientists interested in research careers. This program is integrated with clinical training and post-doctoral opportunities. Residents in the STAR track are eligible for Board certification in Dermatology upon completion.
Residents benefit from a structured curriculum including didactics, practical training sessions, journal clubs, and Grand Rounds presentations. Opportunities for surgical experience are abundant, including Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic surgery. The program also provides exposure to pediatric dermatology and dermatopathology.
Residents engage in community service activities such as Camp Wonder, a camp for children with complex cutaneous diseases. They also have the chance to provide dermatologic care to underserved populations at the Venice Family Clinic.
Residents have access to various clinics during their training, covering subspecialties like Acne, Autoimmune rheumatologic cutaneous disorders, and High-risk skin cancer. They also have the opportunity to attend medical meetings and conferences to enhance their knowledge and skills.
The program requires various application documents, including a Dean's Letter, Medical School transcript, National Board Scores, current Curriculum Vitae, and three letters of recommendation, with at least one from a dermatologist. International Medical School graduates must meet specific criteria.
Overall, the UCLA Dermatology Residency Program offers a robust training experience encompassing clinical, research, and community service aspects. Residents are provided with a supportive environment to develop their skills and knowledge in dermatology.
