The United States Army School of Aviation Medicine (Fort Rucker) Program offers a combined residency program in Aerospace Medicine and Occupational Medicine. Throughout the program, residents will engage in clinical core rotations in Aviation Medicine as well as various specialized rotations including Behavioral Health, Optometry, Audiology, and more. They will also have exposure to Occupational Medicine through rotations at different facilities. In addition, residents will participate in military unique curriculum courses focusing on aviation safety, medical evacuation, hazardous materials management, and other relevant topics.
After graduation, Army Aerospace Medicine Specialists typically serve as Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) Surgeons leading medical teams within aviation units. They continue to provide direct care, lead tactical missions, and have opportunities for operational medicine assignments within the military.
