Fellowship Focused Visa J1

The University at Buffalo Pathology Residency Program focuses on providing residents with the skills, clinical judgment, and knowledge essential for a successful career in pathology. The program aims to train well-rounded physicians who are competent diagnostic pathologists and effective clinical consultants. Residents have the flexibility to choose between a four-year combined Anatomic/Clinical Pathology training program or concentrate in either anatomic or clinical pathology through three-year programs.

The selection process emphasizes cognitive abilities, communication skills, clinical skills, knowledge, and achievements. Applicants are required to submit at least three letters of recommendation, with an emphasis on effective communication skills and commitment to a career in pathology. The program prefers applicants who are less than 10 years out of medical school, and USMLE scores greater than 200 on both parts are preferred on the first attempt. For international medical graduates, the program only sponsors J-1 visas and requires verification of valid ECFMG certification.

The program offers full-day interviews scheduled from October through January, including a program overview, individual interviews with faculty, lunch with residents, and a tour of the department's facilities. Residents may benefit from a comprehensive curriculum and supportive mentoring for a rewarding career in pathology.

The University at Buffalo Pathology Residency Program is ACGME accredited and participates in the National Residency Matching Program for first-year positions. Residents can expect a diverse and neighborly environment in Buffalo with four distinct seasons and an affordable cost of living.
