The Thoracic Surgery Training Program at UC Davis Health offers a well-rounded curriculum designed to train the next generation of cardiothoracic surgeons. Established in 1993, this ACGME-accredited program aims to produce well-qualified surgeons capable of serving communities in either private practice or academia without the need for further fellowship training.

The program offers two pathways for American applicants: the Integrated 6-year Pathway and the Independent 2-year Pathway. The Integrated pathway requires graduates from US or Canadian medical schools accredited by LCME or AOA. The curriculum includes a diverse range of clinical experiences in cardiothoracic surgery, including general thoracic surgery, adult cardiac surgery, and pediatric cardiac surgery. Rotations focus on both operative and perioperative care, emphasizing outpatient instruction and research initiatives.

Residents are encouraged to participate in clinical research projects yearly, with financial support available for national and regional conference presentations. For application, the program requires the NRMP Thoracic Surgery application form, a CV, a personal statement, three letters of recommendation, USMLE scores (Step I, II, and III if applicable), and ABSITE scores if applicable.
