The University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga Department of Plastic Surgery offers a fully accredited advanced three-year Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Residency Training Program. Applicants must have completed five progressive years in an accredited general surgery residency and must meet the requirements to take the certification examination of the American Board of Surgery. Additionally, applicants must have passed the USMLE Step 3 to be appointed to the Plastic Surgery Program.

The residency program provides comprehensive training in various areas of plastic surgery, including congenital defects of the head and neck, neoplasms of the head and neck, cranio-maxillofacial trauma, aesthetic surgery, plastic surgery of different body parts, burn management, microsurgical techniques, and more.

Across the faculty members, each has a unique area of interest and expertise, ensuring diverse rotations. The Plastic Surgery Group at the university comprises all faculty members, with each having a private practice.

The program graduates have all become board certified in Plastic Surgery, with some pursuing fellowship programs for subspecialty training and others establishing successful private practices or academic positions.

The residency program is typically open for advanced positions at the PGY-6 level. Applicants must participate in the Plastic Surgery Matching Program sponsored by The American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons.
