The integrated vascular surgery residency program at the University of Texas Medical Branch is a five-year program that selects one applicant per year. Residents receive training in various surgical specialties, including general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, transplant surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, and trauma surgery. The core faculty consists of eight vascular surgeons who teach a wide range of vascular surgery skills and principles.

Residents in this program learn advanced endovascular skills for treating vascular diseases, such as endovascular aortic aneurysm repair, carotid stenting, and treatments for peripheral arterial disease. Research is an essential component of the program, with residents having two months dedicated to research in their PGY-3 year. They are expected to produce abstracts for submission to regional and national meetings, as well as manuscripts for academic journals.

The program emphasizes learning to critically appraise literature, conduct research in vascular surgery, and actively participate in quality improvement projects to enhance outcomes for vascular patients at UTMB.
