Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Program

Laboratory genetics and genomics (Medical Related Specialty) - Philadelphia, PA | ACGME Code: M024100001

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) offers a Clinical Laboratory Genetics Fellowship Program. The two-year Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) Program provides fellows with exposure to various clinical genomic testing techniques, including cytogenetics, molecular cytogenetics, chromosomal microarray analysis, MLPA, Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing panels, and exome sequencing. Fellows rotate across different locations on the University of Pennsylvania campus and participate in clinical services, bioinformatics, and laboratory genetic counseling. The program also offers robust programs in constitutional and cancer genetics, with opportunities for test development and research participation.

The CHOP/Penn LGG Program requires applicants to have experience in human genetics, and a one-year postdoc is strongly preferred. To apply, applicants must submit an application, CV, Personal Statement, and four letters of recommendation. Applications for the program starting in July 2025 will be accepted from January 1 to July 31, 2024.

For the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Fellowship at CHOP, fellows receive training in serological and molecular diagnostic assays supporting pediatric solid organ and stem cell transplantation programs. These include HLA typing by NGS, HLA antibody screening, donor and recipient crossmatching, and engraftment monitoring. The program is a two-year "director-in-training" fellowship affiliated with the American College of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ACHI) and the American Society for Immunogenetics (ASHI).

The program provides a comprehensive range of courses and conferences for professional development, including weekly case conferences, genetic rounds, journal clubs, and applied laboratory informatics and genetic counseling courses. The program directors for the Laboratory Genetics and Genomics Program are Dr. Minjie Luo and Dr. Jill Murrell.

To apply to the programs, interested individuals must contact the respective program coordinators and meet the specified application requirements. For further details, applicants can explore the program's website or contact the academic coordinator, Gina Riggins Kohn, at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
