The Griffin Hospital Transitional Year Program offers a variety of experiences in internal and preventive medicine. The curriculum is designed to meet the demands of today's medical environment, focusing on developing clinical skills, community-based and clinical research, and addressing community needs through special projects in women's health, cancer prevention, and international health rotations.

Griffin Hospital provides opportunities such as Preliminary Year, Categorical Internal Medicine, Categorical Primary Care, Preventive Medicine, and Combined Internal Medicine/Preventive Medicine, which includes an MPH at the Yale School of Epidemiology and Public Health. The program emphasizes personalized, friendly teaching with excellent resident-attending communication.

Application acceptance is through ERAS, except for the Advanced Preventive Medicine Program. Specific positions are available for each residency track offered for the 2021-2022 academic year. Application review considers letters of recommendation, medical school performance, extracurricular/volunteer experiences, scholarly activities, commitment to the specialty, and USMLE scores. Applicants must pass USMLE step 1 on the first attempt and aim for a score of 230 or higher on Step 2 on their first attempt. Recent medical graduates are preferred, and US clinical experience is preferred for International Medical Graduates. The program sponsors J1 training visas only.

Residents receive a competitive salary, benefits such as paid vacation, subsidized meal plans, medical and dental insurance, and mentorship from physician advisors. The program also offers a mentorship program where each resident is paired with a faculty member for guidance and support throughout their training.
