The National Capital Consortium Family Medicine Residency at Alexander T. Augusta (A.T. Augusta) Military Medical Center is a tri-service family medicine training program that is structured as an unopposed 15-15-15 program. It currently trains six Army, four Air Force, and five Navy residents in each class. The program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
The residency provides a comprehensive curriculum across three years. Residents have the opportunity to gain experience in various specialties, including critical care, emergency medicine, trauma medicine, pediatrics, sports medicine, and more. The program also sponsors the military's only joint Family Medicine-Sports Medicine Fellowship program.
Additionally, in 2016, the National Capital Consortium Family Medicine Residency became the first graduate medical education program in the Department of Defense to earn Osteopathic Recognition from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The Osteopathic curriculum is integrated into a three-year longitudinal track, preparing residents for potential osteopathic board certification.
As part of their residency, all residents are required to participate in scholarly activities, including completing two scholarly activities, one of which should be a quality improvement project, to graduate from the program. The program has been recognized for its outstanding achievement in scholarly activity by the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians.
The Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center offers a robust training environment with a focus on preparing confident and compassionate family physicians for diverse medical settings worldwide.
