The Clinical Laboratory Genetics and Genomics Fellowship program at Nationwide Children's Hospital is a two-year program designed to offer a broad experience in clinical laboratory operations. The program provides exposure to various clinical tests, clinical report writing, troubleshooting, laboratory accreditation processes, patient interaction, and new test development. Successful completion of the program makes fellows eligible for certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG).
Curriculum
Fellows in this program spend two years within an integrated clinical cytogenetics and molecular genetics laboratory setting. They gain exposure to areas such as constitutional cytogenetics, cancer cytogenetics, sequencing assays, molecular assays, carrier testing for cystic fibrosis, and other genetic testing modalities. Fellows also participate in clinical rotations and attend various educational activities and seminars provided by Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Application & Selection
The program is currently accepting applications for the July 2024 start date until August 31, 2023. Eligible candidates must have a PhD in a biological sciences field or have completed the Clinical Medical Genetics residency (MDs only). Candidates with previous work experience in clinical genetics or a laboratory setting are preferred. The application requirements include a current CV, three letters of reference, and candidates should be visa eligible with good English language skills. The program supports J1 visas for eligible candidates.
