Ohio State University Hospital Urban Program

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program offers a comprehensive training experience designed to prepare future family physicians. Residents have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and undergo specialty rotations at the academic health center. Simultaneously, they receive community-based training at Ohio State East Hospital, a community-based hospital. Pediatric training is facilitated through collaboration with Nationwide Children's Hospital. The program ensures that residents are well-equipped for diverse practice settings.

Two outpatient centers are utilized by residents. Primary Care Thomas Rardin, located adjacent to the Ohio State campus, serves a mix of underserved patients, faculty, and students. Outpatient Care East is situated in an urban setting near Downtown Columbus, catering to a significant proportion of underserved populations. The curriculum for first-year residents is standardized, while second- and third-year residents primarily work out of their designated outpatient clinics. Residents benefit from didactic sessions weekly at Rardin, with opportunities to pursue an MBA or MPH at Ohio State during training.

The Family Medicine Residency at Ohio State University participates in the NRMP, accepting applications exclusively through ERAS. The program, under the name "Ohio State University Hospitals Program," offers 9 PGY-1 slots annually. Application requirements include a personal statement, curriculum vitae, Dean’s Letter/MSPE Transcript, three letters of recommendation, USMLE Steps 1 and 2 passing scores, and a valid ECFMG certificate for international graduates.
