OPTI West (Montclair) Program

The Family Medicine Residency Program at PIH Health Downey Hospital in California is an ACGME-accredited program with a strong emphasis on teaching. Established in 1993, the program offers a comprehensive curriculum and a supportive learning environment.

What Makes Our Program Unique:

• The program is unopposed.
• Residents are provided professional and personal support to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
• Various community events, annual retreats, and team-building activities are organized.

Program Curriculum:

• Rotations are 4 weeks long with 13 rotations per year, offering a diverse clinical experience.
• The curriculum includes rotations in inpatient medicine, night block, surgery, labor & delivery, ER, outpatient pediatrics, geriatrics, sports medicine, among others.

Application Requirements:

• Applicants must submit a MyERAS Common Application, personal statement, CV, photo, three letters of recommendation, and USMLE or COMLEX transcripts.
• Requirements also include an MSPE (Dean’s letter) and at least one recommendation letter from a family medicine physician.
• USMLE Step 1 and 2 or COMLEX Level 1 and 2 scores are required prior to February 2023.

Faculty:

• The program faculty includes experienced and dedicated physicians like Dr. Mark Schneider, Dr. Kathryn Schat, Dr. Brianna Kristine Jones, Dr. David Berger, and Dr. John H. Sanchez.

Salary & Benefits:

• Residents receive a competitive salary ranging from $67,400 for PGY-1 to $72,600 for PGY-3, with additional benefits like paid time off, housing allowance, insurance coverage, retirement savings program, and educational support.

Student Rotations:

• The program offers a four-week clerkship rotation for third and fourth-year medical students focusing on outpatient patient care and preventative medicine.
• At present, the program only accepts students from Western University.
