The Transitional Year Residency program at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) aims to create a solid foundation during the intern year to train physicians who are compassionate, high quality, reliable, and cost-conscious. This one-year program focuses on training physicians to impact patients' lives at their most critical moments and exposes them to various clinical disciplines.
The program at NGMC offers experiences in internal medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, critical care, health system leadership, patient safety quality/research, and outpatient primary care. This broad-based training with flexible options caters to individual interests.

The program does not have pre-set score cutoffs, and all aspects of the application are considered for granting interviews. Residents can also pursue two electives during the academic year.
NGMC supports J-1 visas for residents. The program participates in the NRMP, and all positions, including DO positions, are filled through the match process without offering contracts outside the match.
