The University of Missouri-Columbia Plastic Surgery Residency program is a pioneer in the integrated resident pathway. They offer a unique apprenticeship model of surgical education with emphasis on early exposure to plastic surgery. The program has been fully accredited since 1995 and participates in the NRMP, accepting one to two graduating medical students annually.

During the six-year training program, residents receive almost five years of dedicated plastic surgery training. Application to the Plastic Surgery Residency program at the University of Missouri is through ERAS. Required documents include a personal statement, three letters of recommendation preferably from board-certified plastic surgeons, USMLE scores, and a recent photograph. The application deadline for consideration is November 1st.

The program offers interview opportunities to approximately 45 individuals out of more than 200 applicants each year. Interview dates are typically held in January, with interactions with faculty and residents during the interview process. The curriculum provides a structured educational experience with hands-on clinical activities and various learning opportunities.

Residents progress through a curriculum that includes developing technical skills, exposure to a wide variety of plastic and reconstructive procedures, and engagement in academic activities. The program emphasizes mentorship, academic engagement, and high standards for resident development.
