The University of Tennessee/Methodist Healthcare-Memphis Hospitals Program offers an Internal Medicine Residency Program that focuses on caring for patients with chronic diseases reflecting the health disparities in Memphis and the Mid-South region. Residents will receive mentorship from experienced teaching faculty at Methodist University Hospital, the primary teaching site. In a continuity clinic, residents will manage a panel of patients across the continuum of care.
The program provides individualized educational experiences (IEE) allowing customization based on residents' career goals. The 3-year rotational schedule includes rotations in Emergency Medicine, ICU, and outpatient settings. There is no overnight in-house call during the PGY1 year. Didactics are offered weekly, including faculty-driven lectures, board review sessions, Grand Rounds, and journal clubs.
Residents receive benefits typical of full-time employees, including free parking, daily meal stipend, three weeks of vacation annually, and malpractice coverage. The PGY1 salary is $60,216.
Applications are accepted through ERAS, and the program participates in the NRMP Main Match. Methodist Healthcare – Memphis Hospitals has a history as an ACGME clinical learning environment with over 300 residents and fellows. They recently began their internal medicine residency program as an academic community hospital and welcomed the inaugural internal medicine residency class in July 2022.
