Thoracic surgery - Galveston, TX | ACGME Code: 4604821091
The University of Texas Medical Branch Hospitals Program offers a two-year Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery residency program. Residents receive training in managing patients with thoracic and cardiac diseases, with a focus on preoperative, operative, and postoperative care. Procedures such as VATS lobectomy, minimally invasive esophagectomy, TAVR, and transplants are part of the curriculum. In the second year, residents refine operative techniques in cardiac surgery and take on more independent responsibility for general thoracic procedures.
Graduates have gone on to have successful careers in private practice and academic settings.
Application to the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery program is for postgraduate year six of surgery. Applicants are required to apply through the ERAS system. For further inquiries, applicants can contact Dr. Scott D. Lick, the Program Director, via email at [email protected].
