Clinical biochemical genetics (Medical Related Specialty) - Salt Lake City, UT | ACGME Code: M014900002

The University of Utah Health Program offers an ACGME-accredited, two-year Clinical Biochemical Genetics Fellowship with the possibility of an additional research year. The fellowship provides training in laboratory testing for inherited metabolic disorders, including chromatographic and mass-spectrometry techniques. Fellows participate in testing at the Biochemical Genetics and Newborn Screening laboratories of ARUP Laboratories and rotate in clinical and laboratory departments to build expertise in medical genetics and inborn errors of metabolism. Research opportunities focus on molecular bases/pathophysiology of metabolic disorders and development of diagnostic tests.

The program admits two fellows annually and provides training locations at Primary Children's Eccles Outpatient Services, University of Utah Hospital, ARUP Laboratories, and Hunstman Cancer Institute. Stipend offered is commensurate with the year of postgraduate training.

Requirements for applicants include an MD, PhD, or another doctoral degree in genetics, biochemistry, chemistry, or related fields from an accredited institution. Previous clinical laboratory experience or postdoctoral fellowship in genetics is recommended. International MD or PhD holders must have their degrees reviewed by the ABMGG Credentials Committee. The program supports J-1 visas for international trainees.
