The Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) Fellowship at the University of Virginia Medical Center prepares trainees to direct and interpret clinical cytogenetics and clinical molecular genetic analyses related to human genetic disease. The 24-month curriculum includes hands-on training in CLIA-certified clinical cytogenetics and genomics laboratories, didactic courses, seminars, and conferences. Additionally, there is a four-month concentration period for focused exposure. Completion of the fellowship leads to board eligibility in Clinical Laboratory Genetics and Genomics.
For the 2024-2026 cycle, the UVA LGG Fellowship is already full. The program requires a PhD in genetics or a related field, MD from an LCME- or ECFMG-accredited medical school, or equivalent degree. Open positions for the next cycle will be available for application starting July 1st, 2023. Application materials include the Lab Genetics & Genomics application, a CV, personal statement, and 3 letters of recommendation.
