The Maternal-Fetal Medicine & Medical Genetics and Genomics Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is designed to cultivate leaders in the fields of maternal-fetal medicine and genetics, with an emphasis on extensive clinical training, world-class education, and opportunities for innovation, research, and advocacy.

Mission and Goals

The primary mission is to produce highly competent, independent specialists capable of practicing across the full spectrum of maternal-fetal medicine and genetics. The goals include:

• Training providers who deliver compassionate, patient-centered care amidst maternal or fetal complications.
• Addressing healthcare disparities on both domestic and global scales.
• Fostering excellence in clinical, epidemiological, or translational research.
• Preparing graduates for roles as educators, inspiring learners at all levels.

Curriculum Structure

The fellowship spans four years, comprising three years in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and one in Medical Genetics and Genomics. The curriculum includes:

• Research Focus: 12 months of dedicated research time.
• Clinical Rotations: 24 months in various clinical settings such as:
• Ultrasound
• Labor and delivery
• Antepartum care
• Infectious diseases
• Critical care
• Fetal cardiology
• Medical Genetics Training: 12 months focused on medical, biochemical, prenatal, cytogenetic, and cancer genetics.

Training Environment

The fellowship operates in an innovative environment that encourages clinical innovation and quality improvement. Fellows engage in interdisciplinary care, collaborating with various healthcare providers to enhance learning and patient care while developing leadership skills.

Competitiveness and Application Process

The fellowship is highly competitive and supports both diverse candidates including DOs and IMGs. Candidates must have completed an accredited residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Key application requirements include:

• Submission of ERAS application including a personal statement and CV.
• Official medical school transcripts and USMLE scores.
• Three letters of recommendation.

Candidates aiming to apply for the combined Maternal-Fetal Medicine & Medical Genetics and Genomics track must submit separate applications to both fellowships with specified deadlines.

Visa Support

The program offers visa sponsorship for qualified international candidates, which may include J-1 and H-1B visas, ensuring a supportive framework for those coming from abroad.
