Florida State University College of Medicine Program

The Dermatology Residency Program at Florida State University College of Medicine is a three-year training program designed to provide residents with comprehensive clinical training to become experts in skin disease. The program focuses on acquiring medical and surgical skills necessary for diagnosing and treating patients with dermatologic disorders.

Residents interact daily with full-time faculty members and receive written evaluations every 6 months. The program director reviews evaluations and performance semiannually, ensuring continuous improvement of residents’ clinical skills and knowledge. Residents are also expected to participate in conferences, lectures, and mock dermatology board examinations annually to assess their competency.

The residency program offers a curriculum accredited by the ACGME, emphasizing expertise in clinical dermatology, teaching, research, and basic science. The program aims to educate and train the next generation of dermatologists based on ACGME expectations and community needs.

For applicants, the program requires successful completion of USMLE Steps 1, 2, 3, and the CSA. Higher USMLE scores enhance competitiveness for interview selection. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must have valid ECFMG certificates and clinical experience in pathology. The program supports J1 visas but not H1B visas.

The Dermatopathology Fellowship at the University of Florida is ACGME-accredited and provides one-year training in Dermatopathology starting each July. Applicants must pass the USMLE exams, be board eligible or certified, and submit a complete application packet including letters of recommendation, transcripts, personal statement, and USMLE score reports. The fellowship offers a structured training program with two paths for dermatologists and pathologists to become skilled and board-certified dermatopathologists.

The next available position for the Dermatopathology Fellowship is from July 2026 to June 2027. Benefits are commensurate with the level of training. Application packets are due by August 1st.

Please note that the residency program does not accept paper applications for the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Residents are required to have completed a broad-based clinical year (PGY-1) in accredited residency programs. Selected applicants are invited for interviews via the Thalamus online platform, and interviews are by invitation only.
