The Griffin Hospital Internal/Preventive Medicine Residency Program is a unique four-year training program that combines Internal Medicine residency with Preventive Medicine residency. Residents in this program will obtain a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Yale School of Public Health. The program focuses on developing expertise in clinical decision-making, patient care, research methodology, teaching, community-based health promotion, and epidemiology.
The program offers a rigorous, well-rounded curriculum with opportunities to pursue research studies and grants, thrive in academic faculty work, and develop skills in evidence-based medicine, public health, population health, and epidemiology.
Graduates from the IM/PM program have the flexibility to pursue combination careers in internal medicine, primary care, hospitalist roles, sub-specialties, public health, federal government agencies like the CDC and NIH, international health organizations, academic positions, managed care, population health management, entrepreneurship, administration, and the pharmaceutical industry.
The IM/PM Residency Program at Griffin Hospital accepts three residents per year. Applicants should apply through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and use the provided NRMP number for the program. The program prefers recent medical graduates and requires applicants to have passed USMLE step 1 on the first attempt, with a preferred score of 230 or higher on Step 2 also on the first attempt. For International Medical Graduates, US clinical experience is preferred. The program supports J1 training visas for IMGs.
