The Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine offers a comprehensive Plastic Surgery Residency program. They provide training in various plastic surgery subspecialties, such as aesthetic surgery, breast reconstruction, craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery, among others. Residents perform around 800 to 1,000 surgical procedures annually.
They offer two residency pathways: 1. Six-Year Integrated Pathway: Provides increasing levels of responsibility and a broad experience in plastic surgery. The first three years include core surgery rotations and recommended rotations. Subsequent years involve rotations in different plastic surgery services. 2. Three-Year Independent Pathway: Available to applicants who have completed prerequisite surgical training.
The program encourages residents to participate in clinical and basic science research in various areas. They graduate four residents per year, with three from the integrated pathway and one from the independent pathway.
For the Integrated Pathway, applicants must have completed prerequisite medical degree training at an accredited institution. For the Independent Pathway, applicants should have completed prerequisite surgical training as defined by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Residents receive housing subsidies, and the compensation is generous to accommodate the housing costs in the region. Visa support details are not specified on their website.
For more information on their Plastic Surgery Residency program, applicants can refer to the current residency eligibility requirements specified by ACGME and ABPS. Integrated program applications are through ERAS and NRMP. Independent program applications are through SF Match's Plastic Surgery Residency Matching Program.
