The Stanford University Radiation Oncology Residency Program is a four-year program beginning at the PGY II level. It is located on the campus of Stanford University in the Medical Center, which includes the Stanford University School of Medicine and the Stanford University Hospital. The program also involves affiliated institutions like the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital and the Children's Hospital at Stanford.
Residents in this program spend a minimum of 36 months in clinical Radiation Oncology Clinic, where they evaluate new and follow-up patients. They engage in various aspects of patient care, including initial evaluation, staging, treatment planning, and therapy. Training covers a wide range of therapies and techniques such as external beam therapy, electron therapy, brachytherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy, and more. Ancillary rotations are included in the curriculum, such as in medical oncology and physics/dosimetry.
The program offers opportunities for electives, including laboratory research in Radiation Biology or Radiation Physics Divisions, as well as clinical research. There is a Kaplan Research Fellowship available for applicants interested in specific research experiences. The program also supports the ABR Holman Research Pathway to certification.
Application to the Stanford Radiation Oncology Residency Program requires completion of a formal application using ERAS. Specific requirements include a personal statement, a photograph, official transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Applicants must have completed at least a PGY-1 year at an ACGME-approved program and fulfilled specific eligibility requirements to be considered for residency training.
For visa support, the program only supports the J-1 training visa. It does not support the H-1B employment visa or any other non-training visa. Additionally, the program encourages applications from women and members of minority groups to increase diversity in its residency training programs.
