The University of Hawaii Internal Medicine Residency Program is a well-established program sponsored by the University of Hawai'i's John A. The program aims to provide exceptional patient care while emphasizing teamwork, mutual respect, and professionalism among faculty, residents, and staff.
The curriculum of the program includes a strong emphasis on ambulatory care, inpatient general medicine, and subspecialty focused medicine. Residents have the opportunity to train at various clinical sites, both university and community-based, providing a diverse patient population reflective of the Pacific Rim island heritage.
Research is actively encouraged within the program, with residents having the opportunity to engage in scholarly projects and elective research. Funds are available to support residents' research efforts, and annual awards are given to recognize outstanding research achievements.
The program has over 80 full and part-time faculty members with academic appointments in the Department of Medicine, as well as approximately 300 board-certified volunteer clinical faculty, providing residents with exposure to a multicultural patient population and teaching environment.
