The University of Rochester Medical Center offers a distinguished Dermatopathology Fellowship that is meticulously designed for individuals with backgrounds in either Pathology or Dermatology. Those with a Pathology background will engage in dermatology clinical training for 50% of their time, while fellows with a Dermatology background will alternate between pathology subspecialties—such as surgical pathology, hematopathology, molecular pathology, and cytopathology—over 8 out of the 12 months of fellowship training. The faculty engages in personalized mentorship, which allows fellows to experience various styles of dermatopathology practice by signing out cases with three different faculty members. Prospective fellows are required to be board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Dermatology. Furthermore, completion of the USMLE examinations is mandatory by the time of application. It is important to gather supporting documentation such as a CV, personal statement, and three letters of recommendation, at least one of which must come from a Residency Program Director or Department Chief.
