The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (DHR) Internal Medicine Residency Program at Valley Baptist Medical Center is a comprehensive multisite academic community-based program located in Harlingen, Texas. The program emphasizes teaching and learning experiences with UTRGV medical students, psychiatry residents, and pharmacy students.
Applicants to the UTRGV Internal Medicine-VBMC Residency Program should apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Requirements for application include holding an appropriate degree from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada, submitting USMLE scores, dean's letter, letters of recommendation, and engaging in scholarly activity. The application deadline is December 31 for the ten PGY-1 positions available.
For international medical graduates, meeting the eligibility requirements, such as having a valid ECFMG certificate and obtaining a J-1 visa sponsored by ECFMG, is necessary. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas and pass security clearance.
