The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Program offers a rigorous Internal Medicine Residency Training Program focused on developing competent, caring, and well-rounded internists. Preliminary Medicine Track: This track provides a one-year foundation in Internal Medicine for individuals preparing to enter advanced specialty programs.

The program at VCU Health offers combined programs such as Emergency Medicine-Internal Medicine, Internal Medicine & Pediatrics Residency, and Internal Medicine Residency with Geriatric Medicine Fellowship. The program is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, aiming to create an environment of belonging for a diverse group of trainees, support staff, and patients.

Application Requirements: - Only electronic applications through ERAS are accepted. - Required documents include a current photo, personal statement, medical school transcript, three letters of recommendation, Dean’s Letter (MSPE), USMLE Step 1/2 scores (or COMLEX Level 1/2), and being within four years of graduation. - Applicants must be enrolled in the NRMP and only J1 Visas are accepted. - Interviews for categorical applicants are held on specific dates which are subject to change. - Preliminary applicants will have individual Zoom interviews scheduled with program directors.

The program also offers unique experiences for residents, such as social events like barbecues, the Fall Chili Cook Off, and the Celebration of Excellence. Residents join a diverse community in Richmond with cultural and recreational amenities.
