CV or ERAS app, what takes precedence?
Do programs care more about the ERAS application or the CV we attach?
Tough but doable. Set a strict schedule and maybe lessen your clinical load if you can?
Depends if you can manage the prep time. It's hectic but doable.
Personally think it's a great idea, less stress during residency!
Helps for sure, but not the end all. Clinical exp and LORs are super key too.
It’s pretty important, boosts the app + shows interest in the field!
Is back-up specialty necessary?
Considering applying to a less competitive backup specialty. Thoughts?
Depends on your scores and LORs, really. Talk to your advisors about your competitiveness.
If you're not super confident in your primary choice, why not? Always good to have a plan B.
Best time to start ERAS?
When do you guys think is the best time to start working on ERAS application?
Start early, like April or May. Gives you plenty of time to revise and perfect everything.
Alternative Pathways in Residency
Anyone else exploring alternative non-clinical pathways during or after residency?
How many programs y'all applying to?
Just curious how many programs everyone's hitting up this cycle? Over 50 here 😬
Around 30 for me, spread across east and west coasts.
I kept it at 40, all in pediatrics. Don't wanna stretch myself too thin.
Gone a bit overboard here 😅 Applying to 70. Safety first, right?
Choose mentors who really know your work and can vouch for your skills passionately.
Meh, I found them kinda generic. Info sessions from the programs were more useful IMO.
Totally, great for networking and getting a feel for programs personally.
Personal Statement Drama
How long did it take y’all to nail your personal statement? I'm on my 10th draft...help!
Oof, feel u! Took me forever, but find your story & stick to it, you'll get there!
Took me like 4 weeks, loads of edits. Get feedback from mentors, really helps!
Make sure it’s professional! LinkedIn shot is fine, just dress it up a bit.
Yeah, the early bird gets the worm! Be prompt, but ensure everything is perfect.
Real Cost of Residency Apps
How much should I realistically budget for the whole residency application process?
Between applications, travel for interviews and possible hotel stays, it can add up quickly. Think $3k upwards?
Yup, it's a mess. Stay in touch with the programs’ coordinators, sometimes they can help.
Chill, you've got time! Try to get them in by the deadline for ERAS submissions tho!
I'd say asap but definitely before the programs start downloading apps.
