Data Scientist

Remote / Hybrid

Build models and analytics on residency program data, match outcomes, and user behavior to improve SmartPick and discovery tools.

About the role

Residency Advisor helps medical graduates navigate one of the most consequential decisions in their careers. As a Data Scientist, you will work with large, heterogeneous datasets spanning program characteristics, applicant profiles, and match outcomes to improve how students discover programs and plan their applications.

You will partner with product and engineering to turn analysis into features users trust—especially within SmartPick and program discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evaluate predictive models for program fit, safety/target/reach classification, and related SmartPick signals.
  • Build pipelines to clean, validate, and monitor residency and user-behavior datasets.
  • Run experiments and offline evaluations to measure model and ranking changes before release.
  • Partner with product managers to define metrics, success criteria, and dashboards for data-heavy features.
  • Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied statistics.
  • Strong Python skills and experience with SQL and modern ML tooling.
  • Experience building and evaluating models on real-world, noisy datasets.
  • Comfort explaining tradeoffs between model complexity, interpretability, and product impact.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Experience in healthcare, edtech, or marketplace products.
  • Familiarity with residency match, ERAS, or graduate medical education data.
  • Experience with experimentation platforms and causal inference methods.
