Program Overview

The Family Medicine Residency is designed as a three-year program, commencing post-medical school graduation. The structure provides extensive exposure to various medical fields through a blend of clinical rotations and specialized training.

Curriculum Structure

The curriculum encompasses diverse training, including:

  • Pediatric Training: Involvement in nursery, NICU, outpatient pediatrics, pediatric electives, pediatric ER, and inpatient pediatrics, along with continuity clinics.
  • Inpatient Medicine: Residents gain six months of experience in ward responsibilities with two months dedicated to ICU training.
  • OBGYN Training: Rotation includes two months of obstetrics and one month of gynecology.
  • Behavioral Health Training: Emphasis on integrative behavioral health perspectives.
  • Practice Management: Business aspects of medicine are integrated throughout the training.

In addition, residents engage in community medicine training, advocacy training, volunteerism, research, and scholarly activity, including completion of two projects, one of which must be a quality improvement initiative. Academic engagement includes lectures, grand rounds, journal clubs, presentations, and morning reports, with opportunities for committee involvement in the continuity clinics.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

Early application is encouraged, with applications accepted solely through ERAS. Key eligibility criteria include:

  • US citizenship or permanent residency.
  • For foreign medical graduates, proof of 5th pathway completion (if applicable), step 3 completion, and ECFMG certification are required.
  • A maximum of two attempts on the USMLE Step exams is accepted, ensuring residents possess a solid foundation in medical knowledge.
  • Three letters of recommendation from physicians under whom applicants have clinically worked, with an optional fourth letter from other sources to strengthen applications.
  • No prior Graduate Medical Education (GME) training will be accepted.
