Curriculum

The fellowship curriculum includes extensive didactic instruction covering essential areas such as biological mechanisms of behavior, cognitive and language disorders, sleep problems, and management of developmental syndromes. Over the course of the program, fellows experience a decrease in clinical responsibilities from the first year (80% clinical) to the third year, allowing for greater focus on research and elective opportunities as they advance.3

Clinical Experience

Fellows engage in diverse clinical experiences including continuity clinics, various specialty clinics (such as autism and Down syndrome), and community health development initiatives. This multifaceted clinical exposure is crucial for their development as well-rounded pediatric specialists.3

In their fellowship, trainees participate in research studies that address various developmental-behavioral topics. Research time increases from 20% in the first year to 60% in the final year, intertwining with clinical duties and curriculum elements designed to foster research skills.7 Fellows have access to the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center and can present their findings at national meetings, enhancing their growth as scholars in the field.
