Psychiatry
Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Psychiatrists evaluate patients through clinical interviews, psychological assessments, and, when necessary, laboratory tests.
Treatment often includes psychotherapy, medications (e.g., antidepressants, antipsychotics), and other modalities such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Psychiatrists work with diverse patient populations, addressing conditions like depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder.
