Indiana University School of Medicine Program

The Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine trains fellows to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care to medically ill patients with complex health conditions. This one-year, ACGME-accredited program is designed to develop future leaders in the field by providing strong clinical experiences and fostering skills in research, teaching, and administration according to individual fellow goals. Clinical Training Sites

The fellowship offers rotations across several prestigious clinical platforms:

• IU Health University Hospital: A quaternary teaching hospital known for its robust solid organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, and oncology services, providing a busy environment for fellows to lead care alongside residents and medical students.
• Roudebush VA Medical Center: Allows fellows to conduct inpatient consultations and care for veterans with diverse psychiatric needs, with additional electives available in critical care, palliative care, and sleep medicine.
• Fairbanks Fellowship in Clinical Ethics: This competitive program offers fellows the unique opportunity to gain education in clinical ethics and engage in ethics consultations.

Moreover, there are numerous electives available spanning transplant psychiatry, palliative care, oncology, neurology, and child consultations at the Riley Hospital for Children.

Didactic Training

Fellows participate in a comprehensive didactic series designed to enhance their theoretical knowledge and clinical skills. This includes:

• Weekly fellowship seminars.
• Monthly shared fellowship didactics with the University of North Carolina’s CL Psychiatry Fellowship, featuring experts from across the nation.
• Quarterly case conferences and journal clubs.
• Board review sessions and additional optional lectures including grand rounds and clinical ethics case conferences.

Application and Interview Process

For the 2025-2026 application year, the program allows submissions through the ERAS system as well as direct application via the Academy of Consultation-Liaison common application. All applications are considered equally, regardless of submission method. The application deadline is set for October 15, 2024. Specific requirements include completion of an accredited psychiatry residency and a J-1 visa as the program does not sponsor H-1B visas. Each application must include a letter from a program director.
