McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Program

The Clinical Informatics fellowship program at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University is a two-year ACGME-accredited training initiative designed for graduates of ACGME accredited residency programs across various primary specialties, including Pathology. Curriculum and Training

Fellows participate in Masters Level courses offered through the Northwestern School for Professional Studies in areas such as Health Informatics and Health Data Analytics, designed to supplement their practicums and enhance their educational background in clinical informatics. Each rotation is structured to provide immersive experiences across clinical informatics roles, including hospital operations, clinical bioinformatics, and data analytics.

Clinical Experience and Leadership Training

An essential component of the training is the Clinical Informatics Learning Round Table, which is co-led by the Clinical Informatics fellows and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (I.AIM). This forum allows fellows to present their work and share insights, enhancing their networking and collaborative skills, which are immensely beneficial in their careers.

Rotations

Fellows can expect to rotate through designated functional units, guided by experienced faculty members. Each rotation is meticulously designed to align with the overall objectives of the program, allowing fellows to integrate into daily operations and project teams effectively.

Eligibility and Application Process

To be eligible for the fellowship, candidates must be board eligible or certified in a primary specialty such as Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, or Pathology and must be able to secure an unrestricted permanent medical license in Illinois. The program is highly competitive, accepting only one position for each two-year cycle. Upon application, candidates need to submit a current CV, personal statement, and three letters of recommendation, among other documents.

Visa Support

The Clinical Informatics fellowship program is friendly towards international medical graduates (IMGs) and supports visa applications for J-1 and H-1B visas, assisting eligible candidates in obtaining the necessary documentation for training in the United States.
