Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine Program

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center offers an Internal Medicine Residency Program that welcomes a diverse group of interns each year. For International Medical Graduates: The program selectively considers applications from international medical graduates. A medical degree obtained within 3 years of the application with continued clinical work or research activity is required. ECFMG certification is not required at the time of application, but must be completed before submitting a rank list.

The residency supports J-1 and H-1B visas for sponsorship. Residents are assigned to one of three clinical sites for their continuity clinic, paired with a single faculty preceptor for guidance.

Residents follow a 6 + 2 schedule, with two weeks of ambulatory care every six weeks while having ample opportunities in inpatient settings. The program offers rich clinical experiences in both arenas.

Residents at Montefiore gain exposure to research and quality improvement initiatives, presenting at national meetings and publishing peer-reviewed articles. The program emphasizes resident wellness and provides numerous resources for maintaining physical and mental health.

To support residents' well-being, the program guarantees at least one weekend day off per week and provides four weeks of vacation annually. Residents also have educational resource allowances for academic materials and conference attendance.

Salary: PGY-1: $73,584.02; PGY-2: $76,830.38; PGY-3: $80,076.73

After residency, former residents have pursued careers in various specialties, including hospital medicine, primary care, clinical education, and research.

The program is led by an Interim Internal Medicine Residency Program Director, Dr. Matthew D. Shaines, who oversees the Department of Medicine with a focus on resident education. The program also has associate and chief residents who provide support and guidance to current residents.

Dr. Iman Hasan is the Director of Community Engagement and Population Health Initiatives, focusing on social determinants of health in residency education and working to address health disparities in underserved communities.
