The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine offers an Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency Program. The five-year program consists of three years focused on diagnostic imaging and two years focused on interventional radiology. Residents will rotate through various locations, including the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, the San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center, and the University Moffitt and Mission Bay campuses. There are opportunities for clinical care, inpatient management, and clinic practice within the interventional radiology section.

The IR faculty at UCSF consists of nine full-time Interventional Radiologists, led by Dr. Pallav Kolli and Dr. Evan Lehrman. The program is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. They aim to provide a safe and equitable learning environment for all members.

For the application process, students can enter the IR program by applying directly from medical school into the Integrated IR residency or by initially applying to a DR residency program and later transitioning to an Independent IR residency during the third year of diagnostic radiology training. UCSF offers one Integrated IR residency position and three Independent IR residency positions. Applicants for both IR and DR programs are evaluated using the same process and standards.

The application deadline for residents entering in July 2025 is October 2, 2023. The interview dates are in January 2024, and the Match Day is scheduled for March 15, 2024. Applicants must have completed a preliminary year of training at an ACGME-accredited institution before entering the residency program.

For additional details on the application procedures, including requirements for letters of recommendation and the application timeline, applicants are encouraged to visit the UCSF Radiology website.

For the 2024 application cycle, all interviews will be conducted virtually. Applicants will have the opportunity to virtually meet the Program Director, interact with residents, attend didactic conferences, and learn about research opportunities. Unfortunately, second visits or "second looks" are not accommodated.
