The Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is a comprehensive training program designed to prepare anesthesiologists for advanced practice in adult cardiothoracic anesthesia. Initiated in July 2019, this program is ACGME-accredited and offers a one-year fellowship, accepting one fellow each academic year.

Curriculum and Clinical Rotations

The fellowship curriculum is designed to provide extensive clinical exposure complemented by a robust educational framework. The training breakdown consists of the following rotations:

• Cardiac Anesthesia - 5 months
• Thoracic Anesthesia - 2 months
• Transesophageal and Transthoracic Echocardiography (TEE/TTE) - 1 month
• Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (ICU) - 1 month
• Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia - 1 month
• Elective Rotations - 2 months (options include TTE, extracorporeal perfusion, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac ICU, and pediatric cardiac anesthesiology)

This structure allows fellows to gain essential competencies within various cardiothoracic settings, thereby meeting all ACGME requirements and preparing them for certification in advanced perioperative TEE by the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) 1.

Research is a central component of the fellowship, providing fellows the opportunity to engage in multidisciplinary academic conferences and departmental research initiatives. Application Process

• Curriculum vitae
• Three letters of recommendation (up-to-date)
• Medical school transcript, diploma, and dean's letter
• USMLE and/or COMLEX transcripts (passing scores from all three steps required)
• In-training examination (ITE) scores
• ABA Basic Examination results and other board scores, if applicable
• ECFMG certificate (for international medical graduates)
