The Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center focuses on the development of expertise in a comprehensive array of regional and neuraxial techniques. This fellowship, accredited by ACGME, provides a solid foundation in acute pain management strategies.

The program is situated within UNMC and its primary partner, Nebraska Medicine, recognized as a large tertiary care and level one trauma center. Fellows are equipped to undergo a thorough clinical experience, where they are not just passive learners but actively perform and teach ultrasound-guided regional techniques. Each resident graduates with experience in performing approximately 400 peripheral nerve blocks, reinforcing their clinical skills in a real-world environment.

Clinical Experience and Training Sites

The fellowship offers distinct training opportunities across several key locations, including Nebraska Medicine's main campus, Nebraska Medicine Village Pointe, and Children's Nebraska. The fellows work in a variety of settings, such as:

• Acute Pain Service
• Ambulatory Surgery Center
• Pediatric Acute Pain Service
• Chronic Pain Clinic

Fellows participate actively on the Acute Pain Service (APS), frequently collaborating with a diverse team that includes a staff anesthesiologist, other fellows, residents, and physician assistants. This service manages a census of 20-30 inpatients and is responsible for leading pain management interventions.

Educational Framework

Enhancing clinical exposure, the fellowship incorporates a structured educational platform aimed at developing fellows into proficient sub-specialists in the field of anesthesiology. There is a focus on ensuring that fellows are afforded adequate non-clinical time for academic pursuits, allowing them to engage in academic writings, presentations, or research projects.

Application Process

The fellowship accepts one fellow per year, necessitating the completion of an ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency. The application involves a common application and match process through the SF Match. Key requirements for prospective fellows include:
