University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Program

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program offers training for clinical radiologists in various academic and private settings. The program accepts 13 residents per year, with 10 residents in Diagnostic Radiology (DR) and 3 in the Integrated IR residency program. The main teaching hospitals include Memorial Hermann Hospital- Texas Medical Center, Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, and MD Anderson Cancer Center, offering exposure to a diverse range of cases.

Residents benefit from a comprehensive educational experience, daily noon conferences, physics curriculum, multidisciplinary conferences, and one-on-one training. They also attend the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP) course, participate in scholarly activities, and have the opportunity for specialized tracks such as Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) and MDACC Resident Research Pathway.

The program supports a well-rounded and balanced training experience to prepare residents for independent practice or further fellowship training. Residents benefit from excellent preparation for the American Board of Radiology examinations. The training takes place within the Texas Medical Center, providing numerous resources, research opportunities, and a high volume of cases.

Residents are exposed to various rotations across different subspecialty areas of radiology, allowing them to develop expertise in different modalities and clinical settings. The curriculum includes core clinical rotations in areas such as breast imaging, emergency radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, neuroradiology, and more. Additionally, there is an elective year for advanced exposure to various modalities and procedures.
