The Yale-New Haven Medical Center Program offers a two-year ACGME-accredited Clinical Genetics and Genomics residency training program. This program leads to eligibility for certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). Applicants must have a U.S. or Canadian earned M.D. or D.O. degree, or equivalent, and have completed at least one year of training in an ACGME-accredited residency that includes 12 months of direct patient care.
The program provides comprehensive training in various areas of clinical genetics, including general pediatric and adult genetics, metabolic genetics, prenatal genetics, and cancer genetics. Residents will have patient encounters at Yale Medical Center and satellite clinics under the supervision of attending geneticists. Rotations in inpatient and outpatient settings include exposure to molecular and cytogenetics laboratories.
There is a six-month protected block for research, and residents can complete research projects within Yale University. Upon program completion, residents can apply for certification through ABMGG.
The application process is through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) with a match date in October of each year. The program typically sponsors two positions annually, and rolling admission is available for unmatched positions. For inquiries, candidates can reach out to the program director Hui Zhang and program coordinator Erika Alexander.
Individuals with international doctoral degrees are encouraged to have their credentials reviewed for equivalency by the ABMGG Credentials Committee before entering an ACGME-accredited clinical genetics and genomics residency program.
