The Yale Interventional Radiology Residency Program offers extensive and diverse training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. The program received continued accreditation from the ACGME in 2019. They offer three IR Internship-Residency positions per year.
There are two tracks available: 1. Integrated IR Residency: Consists of 6 years (3 Residents per year). The program includes tailored internships, three years of Diagnostic Radiology residency with dedicated time in Interventional Radiology, and two years of dedicated IR training with elective time.
- Independent IR Residency: Available for 2 Residents in total. It is a one or two-year IR Residency Training program that requires completion of a four-year ACGME accredited DR program. The application is through ERAS/NRMP.
The residency program provides an immersive experience with patient care and research opportunities. Residents are exposed to a variety of specialty clinic experiences and participate in NIH-funded research.
The program also has a notable Global Outreach initiative, establishing the first accredited IR training program in sub-Saharan Africa. IR trainees have the option to participate in two-week electives in Tanzania during their training.
On-call responsibilities involve emergency coverage at various campuses within the Yale-New Haven Hospital system, starting from the IR1 year and intensifying throughout the residency training.
