The Geisinger Health System Program offers a dual certificate IR/DR integrated residency program. They provide three interventional radiology residency tracks, including a five-year integrated interventional and diagnostic radiology residency, a one-year independent IR residency, and a two-year independent IR residency. Residents at Geisinger Medical Center spend the majority of their time in an academic university hospital setting, exposed to a wide array of pathology and diverse training backgrounds.

Integrated Interventional/Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program: Residents train alongside their diagnostic radiology colleagues during the R1 – R3 years, with a focus on interventional radiology during the R4 and R5 years. Upon completion, residents are board-eligible for both Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology.

Independent Interventional Radiology Residency Program: Geisinger offers one- and two-year independent residency tracks for trainees who have or haven't satisfied ESIR requirements during their diagnostic radiology residency. Both programs prepare residents for the DR/IR combined certificate examination.
Clinical Work:
Residents gain experience and expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures across various areas such as arterial disease, gender-specific health, GI and GU tracts, liver and biliary tract, oncology, non-oncologic embolotherapy, pain management, venous disease, and more.
Research and Education:
Residents participate in daily morning rounds/case reviews, didactic lectures, conferences, and have research opportunities with mentors. They have academic days for research and are supported with educational funds for resources and meetings.
