STEP 220 Visa J1

The Geisinger Health System offers Interventional Radiology Integrated and Independent Residency Programs. They provide a diverse learning experience through a five-year integrated interventional and diagnostic radiology residency, a one-year independent IR residency, and a two-year independent IR residency. Residents have the opportunity to work at Geisinger Medical Center, an academic university hospital with a Level 1 trauma center, as well as community radiology settings.

In the Integrated Interventional/Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program, residents train alongside their diagnostic radiology colleagues, with dedicated interventional radiology blocks in the R1-R3 years and full IR training in the R4 and R5 years. This program allows residents to become board-eligible for both Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology upon completion.

The Independent Interventional Radiology Residency Program at Geisinger includes one- and two-year tracks, catering to residents who have or have not satisfied the ESIR requirements during their diagnostic radiology training, leading to eligibility for the DR/IR combined certificate examination.

Geisinger's residency programs offer exposure to various patient care experiences in different areas, including arterial disease, gender-specific health, GI and GU tract interventions, oncology, non-oncologic embolotherapy, pain management, venous disease, among others. Residents get ample research opportunities, educational resources, and participate in various conferences.

The programs support research activities with mentorship and provide educational funds for books, journals, and dues. The leadership team includes Dr. Tariq Rahman as the Program Director for Integrated and Independent IR Residency.

The website also features profiles of current residents in the program, sharing their backgrounds, interests, and reasons for choosing Geisinger for their training. Residents highlight the rich learning environment, case diversity, supportive faculty, and hands-on training experiences at the institution.
